Lori Edwards

Lori is
a descendant of a prominent ranching/rodeo family and has
spent her life around horses. Her family is made up of
several world champion rodeo stars both animal and human.
Her grandfather was a saddle bronc rider and her great uncle
raised the famous bull “Outlaw”.
Lori
began riding at the age of 8 and brings with her extensive
knowledge having been involved in many disciplines. She has
ridden jumpers, hunters, barrel racers, 5 gaited saddle
horses, cutting horses and has also done team penning, three
day eventing and dressage. She has also worked with and
rehabilitated race horses.
Lori is
the Director of Production Accounting Solutions and Services
at CGI. She manages a staff of 40 people and works
developing and implementing multi million dollar projects.
She has spent twenty seven years in the oil and gas
industry, initially as a production accountant and then into
software development.
Lori
lives in the DeWinton area with her husband Wade who also
comes from a background in rodeo and with thoroughbred
horses. Her daughter Shelby is an avid competitor on the
hunter jumper circuit at shows throughout North America. |

Vice-President
Janine Olson
 |
Janine
lives with her husband Kent and children Alyssa and Tyler on
their farm southeast of Red Deer. She is a lifelong member
of the agricultural community and has been a partner since
1988 in Willow Butte Cattle Company Ltd., a
multi-dimensional farming operation that includes a feedlot,
a cow-calf operation and the farming of crop and intensive
grass management.
An
Alumna of the Olds College Equine Management Diploma
program, Janine has a history of successful breeding,
foaling and the development and marketing of sport horses in
the hunter and jumper disciplines.
In 2001,
she partnered with her long-time friend, Trish Mrakawa, to
form the Two Willows Equine Development Centres.
Janine
is a Junior Inspector and sits on the Alberta Board of the
Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders’ Association. Janine
competes at shows that include the Canadian Warmblood
Breeders, Welsh Pony and Hunter Futurities throughout the
province.
An avid
photographer, Janine’s interest and expertise in equine
photography whose work can be seen on many equine websites.
She also does portrait work with equines and their partners.

Secretary
Katherine McDonald
 |
Katherine started riding in 1994 and has been
a long time competitor at shows throughout North America.
She has won numerous awards including the ASJA Amateur Medal
Finals. Katherine enjoys the challenge of working with young
horses helping to start them in their competitive careers.
In 2007, she received a Bachelor of Science
degree in Zoology from the University of Calgary. Starting
in January 2008, Katherine has been working on her Masters
of Science in Cardiovascular and Respiratory Science from
the U of C. While doing so she has received several
scholarships including a Natural Science and Engineering
Research Council Studentship, Queen Elizabeth II scholarship
and a University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
Studentship.
Katherine is a gracious person who always
has time for others. She is a mentor and role model for the
next generation of riders. Katherine is also active in
numerous sports including basketball, volleyball and
knitting. |

Treasurer
Kate Bryan
 |
Kate has been involved in many aspects of
the horse industry since she began riding in 1984. Her
background has included successfully competing in the
showjumping arena with fences up to the 1.20m. She is a well
rounded competitor having also shown in the hunters and
equitation winning many championships in all.
As a true horseman Kate has tried a
little of everything including cattle penning, trick riding
and three day eventing. She has been known as a rider who
enjoys the “tough to handle” type of horse.
Never one to be happy unless she is learning something new,
Kate is now attending school for accreditation as an EMT
working towards her Paramedics.
Kate lives in Calgary with her very supportive husband Scott
and daughters Natasha and Emily. |

Trish Mrakawa

|
Trish is
the owner and trainer of Willow Grove Stables, which was
established in 1982. Trish holds a Pony Club “A” Certificate
as well as a Level 3 Coaching Certificate in Hunters,
Jumpers and Equitation. After successfully competing in both
hunters and jumpers as a junior rider on the North American
circuit, Trish switched to Three-Day Eventing and
represented Alberta many times in the Continental Young
Riders Championships.
Trish's
students have competed at shows from Novice level to the
international ring at Spruce Meadows. As a testament to her
ability to ‘empower others’, over 100 of her former students
still remain active in the horse industry and many have
become professional riders and coaches. Trish is partners
with Janine Olson in Two Willows Equine Development Centres
where they raise Warmblood horses for the North American
market.
Trish is
the Master Course Conductor for English Coaching in Alberta,
Past Chairman of the Equine Canada English Coaching
Committee, and is currently Chairman of Coaching for Jump
Canada. A Certified Mentor and Evaluator for the NCCP/Equine
Canada Coaching Programs; she is an accredited Learning
Facilitator for the NCCP/Equine Canada Equestrian Theory
course. Trish is also EC sanctioned judge in hunters,
jumpers and equitation. |

Donna Hammer

|
Donna
was raised on a farm in Moose Jaw, Sask. where she started
riding at age seven and went on to compete successfully in
junior and amateur competitions throughout the prairie
provinces. A highlight was receiving a riding scholarship
at the 1982 Spruce Meadows Masters.
After
graduating with a degree in Animal Health Technology in
1987, she acquired a Level I EC English coaching certificate
in 1989. Upon moving to Calgary in 1990, she received
recorded judging status in hack, hunter, equitation, and
jumper. In 1993 she attained recorded status as a hunter /
jumper course designer and upgraded to senior status in
1996. From 1994 to 2002 she served on the board of
directors as treasurer of the Alberta Show Jumping
Association.
Donna
has worked part time at Moore & Company Veterinary Services
since 1993, while also officiating at about 15 horse shows
per year in Western Canada. She is married to a very
supportive husband and has two wonderful children – Kirstyn
and Kevin. |

Carla Spence
 |
Carla was borned and raised in The Hague, The
Netherlands. Carla met her husband Fred who was on an
overseas assignment in Holland for Shell and together they
moved to Thailand in 1996 where her first daughter Lauren
was born. After this assignment the move continued to
Brockville, Ontario. Her daughter Kirsten was born in
Brockville. Calgary was the next stop and although going
back to Holland in 2003 for two years she calls Calgary home
now.
Carla has worked for Shell International/Shell Canada for 15
years in various positions over the years. Her current role
is Learning from Incidents Coordinator for Heavy Oil.
She has been involved with horses from a very young age and
has a particular love for the Friesian breed, one of the
national horse treasures of Holland. Both daughters are
competitors although in different disciplines. Lauren is an
active barrel racer and enjoys the rodeos while Kirsten is
enjoying the english discipline as a jumper. |

Caroline Jones
 |
Caroline
was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. Her mother was an
avid competitor in the sport of show jumping so at the age
of 12, Caroline decided to take up her own equine pursuits.
Caroline
rode as junior and qualified and showed in the junior hunter
finals and CEF medal at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair
in Toronto, Ont. She won many ribbons in hunter, equitation,
and the 1.40m Amateur Owner Jumpers divisions.
She has
worked almost every job at a horse show beginning with the
back gate of hunter and jumper rings in Canada and the
United States. Caroline is always looking for a challenge so
she moved on judging and managing shows. She has also sat on
many boards including the British Columbia Hunter Jumper
Association; the Alberta Hunter Jumper Association, and
currently the Jump Canada Competition and Young Horse
committees.
She is a
popular Show Manager on the West Coast where she is known
for her philosophy of "exhibitor friendly" horse shows.
Caroline
judges all around North America - has judged at major
tournaments including the National Medal Finals in United
States, Capital Challenge, West Palm Beach, and the Los
Angeles medal finals.
The
Jones family is truly an example of committed horsemen with
her husband Kip who is rider, coach and breeder; daughter
Angelica a dedicated rider; and son Christopher an EC
sanctioned course designer. |
